Beacon Light operates a privately licensed school program designed to provide education for children who have been unsuccessful in traditional classroom settings. This program offers the opportunity for academic success, and encourages students to value education and learning all within a safe, structured setting. Alternative education is available to children living in the community or in one of Beacon Light's residential programs. Additionally, Beacon Light offers a highly customized, autistic support classroom within the school.

The Regular Education Teacher is responsible for teaching one or more core content or elective subjects for students that may range in grades k-12 as assigned and certified. Teachers may use creativity, humor and imagination to develop schemes of work and to plan lessons in order to foster a healthy culture of learning within the classroom and to generate the most effective interactions with students.

Responsible for providing additional support for students established academic and behavioral goals. Updates each student's academic and behavioral goals on their six-week periodic reviews. Responsible for providing accommodations to students who function on an IEP. Will be an active and contributing participant for the IEP team.

Teachers encourage, monitor and record the progress of individual pupils, and devise and tailor resources accordingly. They must also keep up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and national and state objectives/standards.

This position is for a Health and Physical Education Teacher and can be full- or part-time.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position prefers an active driver's license and a DMV check that is clear. Position may require travel in the local community or to assist with individuals attending required appointments or visits 5-10% of the time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
  • Pennsylvania Certification in Assigned Core Content Area in required area/level

Beacon Light Behavioral Health System (BLBHS) and Beacon Light Adult Residential Services (BLARS).

Together they provide mental health services to adults, children and families in both community-based and residential settings. Individually, BLARS primarily provides residential programs for adults, while BLBHS provides community-based and residential programs for children, as well as community-based programs for adults.
