The Special Education Teacher is responsible for teaching one or more core content or elective subjects for students that may range in grades k-12 as assigned and certified. Teachers may use creativity, humor and imagination to develop schemes of work and to plan lessons in order to foster a healthy culture of learning within the classroom and to generate the most effective interactions with students.

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing accommodations to students who function on an IEP. When a student's IEP is due, the special education teacher is the teacher of record for a caseload of students. Caseload numbers will depend on the disability of the students.

Teachers encourage, monitor and record the progress of individual pupils, and devise and tailor resources accordingly. They must also keep up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and national and state objectives/standards.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position prefers an active driver's license and a DMV check that is clear. Position may require travel in the local community or to assist with individuals attending required appointments or visits 5-10% of the time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
  • Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education in required area/level
  • Core Content Pennsylvania Certification preferred

About Us

Beacon Light Behavioral Health System (BLBHS) and Beacon Light Adult Residential Services (BLARS).

Together they provide mental health services to adults, children and families in both community-based and residential settings. Individually, BLARS primarily provides residential programs for adults, while BLBHS provides community-based and residential programs for children, as well as community-based programs for adults.
